An exhibition of the New Ceramic Art of Adele Howitt and the Drawings of Myles Linley.
Adele Howitt works primarily with clay and is known for creating art within the public realm. She is also the co-founder and the current Director of Studio Eleven at No.12.
“I am fascinated by the natural world, geology, history and science. The relevance of pattern and form found in landscape are concepts that I investigate, including microscopic landscapes and pollen grains. These ideas manifest as ceramic sculpture. Made in clay and fired to stoneware temperatures, the work is constructed intricately. I begin with press moulding and coil building, apply repeated templates of clay, and use traditional pottery flower making.”
Adele has exhibited work internationally and nationally with pieces now in museum collections. Currently, Adele is lead artist for the ‘Heritage on the High Street’ project – set up to innovate the world famous Hornsea Pottery into the high street setting. The trail will manifest in permanent installations around the town of Hornsea, creating artwork in ceramic, brick, terrazzo, and metal. The Heritage on the High Street project is being led by a Steering Group of Hornsea & Area Renaissance Partnership members (HARP), ERYC Members, Town Councillors, and the Civic Society.
Myles Linley creates paintings and drawings mostly of landscapes, seascapes and street scenes. He concentrates on light, shade, movement and stillness to create dramatic brooding images. Myles is based in North Yorkshire with easy access to the Yorkshire landscapes that inspire him.
Myles Linley was born in 1967 and grew up in North Yorkshire. He studied Art in Harrogate and at Bristol Polytechnic in the late 80’s. During his childhood, he became fascinated by the moorland landscape and, after studying down south, returned to Yorkshire. Since moving to Yorkshire Myles became intrigued by the landscapes of the East Riding – both city scenes of Hull and the countryside. He has exhibited nationally from Harrogate to London.
