Painter Myles Linley, and Ceramicist Adele Howitt.

Myles Linley – Landscape Artist

Myles Linley draws and paints the last remaining areas of landscapes that may be considered the Wilderness. The compositions capture flat lands, ghosts and passage of tide and horizon, dramatic views. He studied Art in Harrogate and at Bristol Polytechnic in the late 80’s and then returned to Yorkshire.

His paintings are mostly landscapes, seascapes, and street scenes. Areas such as the Industrial landscapes of Hull and Leeds, the Holderness Coast, North Yorkshire Moors, and the Yorkshire Wolds remain a focus. The upper reaches of the Humber Estuary and the surrounding area are an intriguing, somewhat forgotten part of the country.

He concentrates on light, shade, movement and stillness to try and create dramatic brooding images. Myles has been shortlisted for the John Ruskin Drawing Prize.

Adele Howitt. Ceramicist and Designer.

Adele Howitt is the Artistic Director of Studio Eleven.  A designer and  maker of ceramics, she predominately works in clay to investigate the notions of the living landscape, abstraction, pollen grains, and natural patterns. Slab work is twisted and turned to add detailed relief utilising the traditional pottery techniques discovered whilst investigating the South Yorkshire Potteries.

For Adele, clay is a sculptural medium, opposing the tradition of using it as a technical medium or an exploration of the vessel. Techniques include, drawing, hand building, coil / slab building, hand-thrown elements, mould making, slip casting, extruded clay, printing, and glazing.  Her work is collected nationally and internationally and has been shown in various Biennials.

Adele has a portfolio of architectural ceramics and public art; she is currently working on a new Heritage Action Zone in Kirkham with Flyde Borough Council.
